Muslims in Jerusalem Celebrate the Prophet’s Birthday

Al-Mawlid al-Nabawi (the Prophet’s Birthday) is a day of celebration among Muslims across the faith to observe the day when the Islamic prophet Muhammad is reported to have been born. The Eid (festival/celebration) is observed usually on 12 Rabi‘ al-Awwal, the third month in the Hijri (Islamic) calendar.

Muslims commemorate the occasion through public processions, decorating homes, praising and glorifying Allah (God), and social gatherings.

In East Jerusalem, the courtyard of al-Aqsa Mosque is a popular spot for gathering, connecting, and celebrating this annual holiday.
