The Child Institute was established by Al-Quds University in 2004 to help create bridges of collaboration between the university and the Jerusalem community. It studies community needs and develops programs that build the capacities of adults who work with children and youth.

The institute focuses on creating programs and projects to educate children with educational, physical, behavioral, and emotional difficulties (for example, anxiety disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, disruptive behavior disorders) and their parents and teachers about the nature of their challenges and needs. It encourages research about children’s well-being in many disciplines, including education, health, and psychology.

It also fosters public awareness about children’s needs and well-being by disseminating information to national and international institutions and universities and to the public and the private sectors, including NGOs.

The Civic Coalition for Palestinian Rights in Jerusalem (CCPRJ) was established in 2005 to mobilize civil society to combat Israeli policies that undermine Palestinian rights, identity, and presence in occupied East Jerusalem. The coalition’s members are Palestinian nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) and community-based organizations (CBOs) working in the fields of culture, development, urban planning, and human rights, including the rights of children, youth, women, and Palestinian political prisoners and detainees.

The coalition’s primary focus is on the following areas: housing, land, and planning rights; civil and political rights; economic, social, and cultural rights; children’s rights; and the right to freedom of expression.
