The Peace Center adopts a holistic approach to education: members are educated in academic subjects and vocational skills and trained in self-care, hygiene, health practices, home economics, mobility, and other practical life skills. Instructors are also visually impaired and serve as mentors. Students live and work together with several faculty and staff in a shared boarding house facility.

Qafilah (Convoy) was established in 1995 by Palestinian youth artists with professional backgrounds in theatrical directing and acting as well as cultural and arts programs. They envisioned theater performed on a mobile stage that could be transported to other locations on a long truck equipped with technical facilities. The project offers youth artists of varying skill levels an opportunity to interact with Palestinian audiences, especially those living far from cities. It also provides the artists a space to innovate and opportunities to focus on current topics.

alQaws for Sexual & Gender Diversity in Palestinian Society

Mission

At individual, community, and societal levels, alQaws disrupts sexual and gender-based oppression, and challenges regulation of our sexualities and bodies, whether patriarchal, capitalist, or colonial. We work collaboratively to transform Palestinian society’s perspectives on gender and sexual diversity, homosexuality and LGBT issues, and to struggle for broader social justice.

Our locally-based programs support and advocate for diverse LGBTQ individuals and their families, create opportunities that inspire youth to become community leaders, open spaces for diverse communities at local and national levels, develop engaging and relevant educational materials to train civil society organizations, movements, and counseling professionals, and challenge social norms and common misperceptions with far-reaching innovative media initiatives.

With origins as an independent local project in Jerusalem in 2001, alQaws became a national grassroots organization in November 2007, the first step in creating a sustainable, visible, and truly impactful Palestinian LGBTQ movement that represents a local discourse and uses strategies inspired by alQaws’ activists’ field experience and analysis. It also provides basic counseling services that focus on sexual orientation.

Quds Art was established in 2012 to promote artistic production, marketing, and distribution. The organization believes in the need to support and develop initiatives of Palestinian artists through networking with artistic educational social institutions and companies, all of which serve shared objectives both locally and internationally. Quds Art issues cultural and literary publications associated with the different art productions; it also works with artists with disabilities and artists from other marginalized groups throughout historic Palestine.
