Located in the city of Bethlehem, opposite a section of Israel’s Separation Wall, which is often referred to as the Apartheid Wall, the Walled-Off Hotel is an art installation and functioning hotel that the anonymous street artist Banksy created in 2017. Originally conceived as a temporary exhibition, the hotel has since become a major cultural landmark, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors from around the world. After remaining closed for two years from October 7, 2023, during Israel’s genocidal war on the Gaza Strip, it reopened in December 2025.

The hotel features Banksy’s work alongside pieces by other artists, including Palestinian artists Sliman Mansour (see Sliman Mansour) and Nabil Anani. Its uniquely designed rooms and exhibitions explore the realities of life under Israeli occupation, unveiling the daily architecture of apartheid in the shadow of the massive Separation Wall and the ever-present gaze of nearby watchtowers.
