The Islamic Dispensary is a medical institution founded by and affiliated with Al Makassed Islamic Charitable Society (see Al Makassed Islamic Charitable Society). Seated at the center is Amin al-Khatib, a Palestinian general physician and civic leader from Jerusalem who helped establish the Society in 1956 alongside prominent Jerusalem figures such as Zulaikha al-Shihabi (see Zulaikha al-Shihabi) and Hind al-Husseini (see Hind al-Husseini). Since its founding, Al Makassed has established numerous clinics, dispensaries, and schools across Jerusalem, in addition to a teaching hospital and a nursing faculty, serving the medical and educational needs of tens of thousands of Palestinian Jerusalemites.
