The center was established in 1965 as a home for children with physical disabilities, mainly those suffering from polio and paralysis. It is a charitable, nongovernmental, nonprofit institution entrusted under the Anglican Episcopal Church.

The center has grown since its founding:

  • In 1987, a mainstream school was started where children with disabilities are included along with nondisabled children.
  • In 1993, the centre was identified as one of four national referral/resource centers for the growing community-based rehabilitation structure in Palestine.
  • In 2010, an autism program was added.
