Notes
Founded by Katherine George Siksek in 1940, the Four Homes of Mercy was the first nursing home in Palestine and is Palestine’s largest and oldest organization for short-term and long-term care and rehabilitation for people of all ages. At present, Four Homes serves 64 neurologically impaired residents of varying ages, and families contribute no more than 6 percent of the cost of care. Each resident has a personalized care program tailored by a compassionate multidisciplinary team, which includes family members, with adjustments made as needs evolve.
To serve patients’ needs for long-term round-the-clock services, Four Homes provides 24-7 care as well as social and recreational activities. In addition to their neurological disabilities, many residents have significant cognitive, learning, and emotional impairments. Only a very few can talk or walk; the rest use wheelchairs. For some, Four Homes has been their home for decades.
Four Homes has facilities in both Jerusalem and Bethany (al-‘Izariyya).
