Yeshiva

A Jewish educational institution primarily focused on the study of religious texts, such as the Torah and Talmud. Traditionally, only men and boys attend yeshiva, starting at adolescence and continuing to adulthood. A traditional yeshiva education excludes basic secular subjects. In Israel, many yeshiva students receive government subsidies and are exempt from military service, although recent legislation has sought to challenge that blanket exemption. Jerusalem is home to some of the most well-known yeshivas in the world, attracting Jews from abroad.
