Santur

A trapezoidal hammered musical instrument with a sounding board or box that is played by striking the strings with small wooden mallets. Originating in ancient Persia, the santur spread across the Middle East and has deeply influenced the musical traditions of the Levant, including Palestine. In Palestinian music, the santur holds cultural significance as part of the region’s rich tapestry of folk and classical sounds, often accompanying traditional songs and dances such as the dabke.
