Adhan

The Muslim call to prayer that usually emanates from mosques, signaling the start of each of the five daily obligatory prayers. Traditionally, the muezzin ascends the mosque’s minaret and loudly recites several phrases in Arabic that include the shahada, or an attestation that there is only one God, Allah, and that Muhammad is His messenger, and an invitation to come and pray.

In most areas of the world, the adhan is now broadcast on a loudspeaker.
