The demographics of Jerusalem are shifting in some important ways. Most notably, as shown in this graphic, the fertility rates for Arabs and Jews have changed considerably over the past 20 years. This, in turn, is affecting the share of births for each group and its median age.
Aside from the fertility rates, the data shown here are from 2023. They are official Israeli data, which is all that is currently comprehensively available, but these data are known to be influenced by political considerations around Israel’s imperative to maintain a specific demographic ratio between Arabs and Jews in the city (see Precarious, Not Permanent: The Status Held by Palestinian Jerusalemites (Pt. 2)).
