This poster presents a vibrant graphic depiction of Palestinian olive harvesting, with several figures perched on ladders gathering olives from a large tree against a vivid striped sky. The scene highlights the central role of olive cultivation in Palestinian agricultural life. As noted by Palestinian historian Walid Khalidi in Before Their Diaspora, Palestinians were responsible for most of the agricultural production during the Colonial British Mandate, contrary to prevailing opinion in the Western world. Of the 600,133 dunams devoted to olive cultivation in Palestine, 99 percent was Palestinian owned and cultivated, according to Khalidi.
Anis Hamadeh is a freelance artist, journalist, songwriter, and author. He was born in 1966 in Hamburg to a German mother and Palestinian father. He holds a master of arts in Islamic studies, English, and linguistics and has lived and worked in Mainz, Germany, since 2005.
