A Third Palm Sunday amid War on Gaza

April 13, 2025 marked the third Palm Sunday observed under the pall of the ongoing genocidal war on Gaza. Local churches limited observances to the usual procession and prayers, in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza. In the Old City, the holiday was observed by a mixed crowd of foreign pilgrims, local Palestinians and only a few thousand Palestinians from outside the city in the rest of the West Bank. Heightened restrictions on Palestinian Authority ID holders entering Jerusalem meant that only 6,000 out of 50,000 Palestinian Christians with such IDs were able to access the city to observe the holiday at their holy sites.1

Our photographers captured scenes from the procession, which began in al-Tur, passed through Lions’ Gate, and ended at the Church of Saint Anne in the Old City.
